Majjiga Mirapakayalu is a popular South Indian snack that combines the tanginess of buttermilk (majjiga) with the spiciness of green chili peppers (mirapakayalu). It’s a simple and flavorful dish that can be enjoyed as an appetizer or accompaniment to a meal. Here’s a recipe to make Majjiga Mirapakayalu:

Ingredients:

  • – 10-12 green chili peppers
  • – 1 cup thick buttermilk
  • – 1/2 cup gram flour (besan)
  • – 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • – 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • – 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • – A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • – Salt to taste
  • – Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. – Wash the green chili peppers thoroughly and make a vertical slit in each pepper. Remove the seeds if you prefer a milder taste.
  2. – In a mixing bowl, combine the gram flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, asafoetida, and salt. Mix well.
  3. – Gradually add buttermilk to the mixture and whisk until you achieve a smooth batter. Ensure there are no lumps.
  4. – Heat oil in a deep pan or kadai for frying. Make sure the oil is hot enough for frying.
  5. – Dip each green chili pepper into the batter, coating it evenly. Gently slide the coated pepper into the hot oil.
  6. – Fry the peppers in batches until they turn golden brown and crisp. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  7. – Repeat the frying process with the remaining peppers until all are cooked.
  8. – Allow the Majjiga Mirapakayalu to cool slightly before serving. They can be enjoyed as is or paired with a chutney or sauce of your choice.

Note:

Majjiga Mirapakayalu can be stored in an airtight container for a few days, but they are best enjoyed when fresh and crispy.

Enjoy the tangy and spicy flavors of Majjiga Mirapakayalu as a delightful snack or appetizer. Adjust the level of spiciness according to your taste preferences.
