“Crunchy Delights: Authentic Chakodilu Recipe for Festive Snacking”

Chakodilu, also known as Chakodi or Murukku, is a popular South Indian snack that is enjoyed by people of all ages. This crunchy and savory snack is typically made during festivals, special occasions, or as a tea-time treat. Here’s a simple recipe to make Chakodilu at home:

Ingredients:

  • – 2 cups rice flour
  • – ½ cup gram flour (besan)
  • – 2 tablespoons melted ghee or oil
  • – 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • – 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • – ¼ teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • – Salt to taste
  • – Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

  1. – In a mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, gram flour, melted ghee or oil, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, and salt. Mix well to ensure that all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. – Gradually add water little by little to the flour mixture and knead it into a smooth and pliable dough. The dough should be firm but not too stiff. Adjust the amount of water as needed.
  3. – Take a small portion of the dough and shape it into a cylindrical log. Place the log in a Murukku press or a chakli maker fitted with a star-shaped plate. Ensure that the press is tightly sealed.
  4. – Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadai over medium heat. Allow the oil to become hot but not smoking.
  5. – Slowly press the dough into the hot oil in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outwards, to form small spiral shapes. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan, as the Chakodilu need space to cook evenly.
  6. – Fry the Chakodilu until they turn golden brown and crispy. Keep turning them occasionally to ensure even cooking. Once done, remove them from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain on a kitchen paper towel to remove excess oil.
  7. – Repeat the process with the remaining dough, shaping and frying the Chakodilu in batches.
  8. – Allow the Chakodilu to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container. They will remain crisp for several days.

Enjoy your homemade Chakodilu as a delicious snack with tea or coffee or serve them as part of a festive spread. They can also be enjoyed on their own as a satisfying and crunchy treat.
